This week in Grade 2 ...     ... "we showed our best writing with an October Writing Sample."     ... "we learned how to estimate numbers. An estimate is guessing how many things are in a collection."      ... "we learned about communities and how culture and traditions make a community unique."     ... "we made an insulator to keep an ice cube cold."       ... "we ordered numbers from 1st to 10th."     ... "we started to make a story using a story mountain."      ... "we read 'The Jelly Donut Difference' and made Kindness Donuts. Our Kindness Donuts have kind words and promises on them."     ... "we read 'The Girl Who Hated Books' and we learned that by reading books every day, we learn millions of words."      ... Hello Grade 2 Families! Welcome to our classroom blog! Here is what we have been learning about so far this year: Literacy - Story Writing with a Character, Setting and Problem; Nouns, Adjectives and Verbs; and Main Idea or Lesson of Stories Math  - Patterning - Repeating and Increasing Patterns, Pattern Core, Pattern Rule, Attributes (the Pattern changing by Colour, Shape and Size); Numbers to 50 - Place Value (Tens and Ones), Comparing Numbers with Mr. Great (Greater Than, Less Than and Equal To), Odd and Even, Skip Counting by 2s, 5s and 10s Science  - Hot and Cold Temperatures - Using Thermometers, Identifying Hot and Cold Changes (Jell-o changing from a powder to a liquid with heat and then changing to jello with cold; Ice Cream melting when heat is applied), Seasonal Temperature Changes and how we can Dress for the Weather, Adjusting Temperature in a House or School (turning on a fan to cool down, turning on a heater to warm up)  Social Studies  - Me on the Map Project - Our Com
